September 21, 2015 - September 25, 2015

In My Very Own Room, a young girl is sharing a room with five brothers. What she wants more than anything is to have her own room. Because of the title, we think the girl will get her room in the end. We keep making predictions as we read. Predictions are good guesses about what will happen next, and they’re based on clues the author has given. Making predictions is fun—it’s like solving little mysteries! The predictions also keep us involved in the story.

September 14, 2015 - September 18, 2015

This week our class is reading a story titled Wolf!  The story is about a wolf that sees other animals reading books and wants to read, too.  We can tell how the characters are alike and how they are different.  They are alike because they are all talking animals.  The pig, duck, and cow can read but the wolf can't.  That's a way the characters are different.  It's fun to compare and contrast the characters as we read.

September 8, 2015 - September 11, 2015

Our class is reading about people that help the environment.  In Earth Smart, the main idea is that Goodwillie Environment School is a green school.  A green school is friendly to the environment.  The details tell more about the main idea.  I read that the school's walls and floors were built with recycled materials.  As we keep reading, there will be other details that tell me more about this green school.
