November 30, 2015 - December 4, 2015

This week we're reading Messaging Mania.  The article's about instant messaging on the computer and how it's a fast and easy way to communicate with friends, but it can also cause problems.  In class, we are learning about cause and effect.  As we read, we will find out the different ways that computers cause people to change the way they communicate.

This week we're reading A Castle on Viola Street.  It's about a family who wants to live in a nice house.  The family and the neighbors work together to fix up old houses, so people can live in them.  We learned that the theme is the message of the story.  I think the theme in this book is helping one another can lead to wonderful things.

We are reading Home-Grown Butterflies in class this week. It’s a real story about how people raise butterflies in Costa Rica. In this one village, there were fewer and fewer fish to eat and sell for money. Soon they would have to cut down trees from the rain forest in order to farm the land. A scientist taught the school kids how to start a butterfly farm! They now sell the pupae, or eggs, to zoos. Our conclusion is that those kids are serious about protecting their environment.
